VIRTUAL FUNDRAISER FOR PHOENIX CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

In response to COVID-19, Artist Shanna Israel and Chef Chris Bianco teamed up to create a FOOD ART charity fundraiser, which benefits the frontline workers and children at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Shanna took ingredients that Chef Chris uses on a daily basis and transformed them into a mixed-media piece of one-of-a-kind art. The ingredients included garlic skins, Bianco tomato cans, fresh rosemary, and more.

The unique piece was created in support of the Hardship Fund at the hospital. The fund helps families of patients cover many different expenses, so that they can focus on their treatments and care. 100% of the funds generated by the piece are donated to the Hardship Fund.

About Chris Bianco

Chef Chris Bianco won the James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest in 2003 and was the first pizzaiolo to receive the honor. Bianco helped spawn a generation of independent and artisanal pizzerias as he lent his advice, wisdom, and food philosophies to dozens of fellow chefs and restaurateurs. His pies were named best in the country by Ed Levine in his book Pizza: A Slice of Heaven. Jeffrey Steingarten of Vogue deemed them the best in the world as well.

“Because this is for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, we wanted to provide hope,” Israel told Bianco, of the final design. “I spelled out the word “hope” using the ingredients you gave me.”

”All we can do is all we can,” Bianco says to Israel during their partnership debut. “Whether it’s giving your time or a tomato.”
